Beginning & Intermediate Watercolor and Drawing
Katherine Pacheco Gauntt 286-0619
Thursday August 20-October 15, 2009
This 8-week course will cover many watercolor techniques starting with an understanding of how watercolor paints and paper behave, and use of basic washes such as flat, graded, and blending methods. There will also be an emphasis on drawing, perspective, values and composition. Part of the drawing instruction will include classical drawing methods and those based on Betty Edward’s well-known book, “Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain”.
Initially, the classes will make use of props such as fruit and still life objects. The novice watercolor artist has many fears and preconceptions about the difficulty of this medium. I will calm these fears by getting you familiar with your paint, your brushes and the many ways to correct any mistakes. In addition to class work, assignments will be given to encourage the students to practice at home, and to develop the skills and techniques needed to paint well. There will be at least one visit to galleries to expand perspective and appreciation of the contemporary art scene and to learn from great artist’s original works.

Times: Beginning class-- 9-12 noon, Intermediate class--12:30-4 pm.
Cost: $180, which includes tax. Dates: Thursday August 20-October 15
